Detours Grimsdalen - Dombås

From Grimsdalen to the valley areas of Dovre and Dombås, there are many experiences you shouldn’t miss. You can walk in The Footsteps of Kings – and, according to the myth, walk in the footsteps of a murderer...

Lean-to shelters

There are signposts to two lean-to shelters along Grimsdalsvegen. One of them is just 300 metres from the road and is a great place to take a break. The other is approximately 1.5 kilometres from the road and a little higher up the hillside.

The King’s Road and The Pilgrim Path

The King’s Road starts from Dovre Church in Dovre town centre. Taking a day trip in The Footsteps of Kings can be a welcome break from the bike seat.

The Pilgrim Path follows the same route as The King’s Road from Dovre. It is possible to walk The King’s Road in several places on the Tour de Dovre, along the National Park Trail, for example.

Kristofferholo

The path to Kristofferholo is signposted on the west side of the Toftemo bridge. Following the path through the forest, the trip is approximately 1.5 km one way and is an exciting trip for both adults and children.

According to the story, Kristoffer Flagestad is supposed to have killed his neighbour in the 1600s and lived as an outlaw in this cave for 7 years. The cave was also used as a bomb shelter during World War II.

Places to swim

There are many great swimming spots in fresh mountain waters along the Grimsa River in Grimsdalen.

There are also many nice places you can stop to take a dip along the Lågen River. If you cycle on vestsidevegen/County Road 497 from Toftemo to Dombås, Killisand and Dombfossen offer fantastic places to swim. Killisand has a sandy area and is suitable for all ages, while Dombfossen is for the more adventurous – many people jump in from the bridge!

Jorarunda

There is a very nice path located west of Dombås that is signposted and adapted so that it suits both cyclists and hikers.

The trail is well signposted from Dombås town centre.

Dombås´Steepest

The fell running race called Dombås bratteste is held annually in September. However, the trail is there all year round!

The trip offers a great evening hike or a day trip as a “day of rest” from the bike seat. Those who want to experience new heights can also use their electric bike.

There is a well defined path that runs from the bottom of the ski slope all the way up. When you reach the top of the ski lift you have arrived at Skogahøe and can see over to Hjellhøe.

There is a well defined path over to Hjellhøe and you are rewarded with a great view over Dombås and Lesja.
